45hz018 – Dubbed Out 2nd Birthday

April 29, 2011 § 2 Comments

The night of April 23rd was my second trip to Maidstone for Dubbed Out and it just so happened to be their second birthday. Arriving earlier than I expected due to not getting lost this time round, I went out for a cigarette half hour before doors and was greeted with this.

Up first was Dubbed Out resident and one of the nicest guys involved in this scene, Mosaix. His set was comprised of the deep, dark sounds Dubstep was founded on and had me grinning like a fool for the majority of it.

Second up was the current man of the moment, J:Kenzo. Longtime Dub Police officer, fresh releases on Tempa and weekly support from the likes of Youngsta have firmly cemented his name in the memory banks of Uk Bass music heads. Oh yeah, did I mention he is now part of the Daily Dose of Dubstep crew on BBC Radio 1xtra? Roteks on that system was nearly too much for me!

Next up was Reso, one of the most approachable and genuinely nice BIG name producers there are. After catching a few words with him in the smoking area in regards to DMZ and vibes at dances, he took to the stage. It was a breath of fresh air to hear Drum & Bass around these parts that wasn’t the same old Jump Up. His set moved from DNB, to Dubstep to Hip Hop tempo quickly and his mixing skills were more than on point throughout.

Following Reso was the main draw of the evening for myself. Distance. If you’re reading this blog, then you will know who he is, what he has done for the scene and how all his hard work finally paid off earlier this year upon signing a record deal with the seminal and massively influential Island Records. I don’t need to say much. His set was a LOT.

Complimenting his set were the soft tones of Ms Alys Be. Hearing the Kryptic Minds track Can’t Sleep through that system with her singing it puts the hairs on the back of my neck on end just thinking about it.

The last set I managed to catch before going home was Hatcha & Crazy D. In my opinion it could’ve been a bit better, but the heads on the dancefloor were lapping it up and quite clearly loving every second of it. When you see him in action, its easy to see why he is so well respected around the world for his mixing skills.

Here is a short video compromised of all the Dadcam videos I took over the night. Editing and video quality aren’t the best, but if you want to experience this music properly, you’d go see these DJ’s perform in a live setting.

Out to Dave Mosaix, J:Kenzo, The Dubbed Out family and everyone else who made my night an enjoyable one, once again.
